Out of the Mouths of Babes

On Christmas Day, my husband and I decided to go to church with his sister and her family. They have three children between the ages of 18 months and 7 years (approximately). While the parents sang with the choir in Sacrament Meeting, D and I sat with some of their children in the audience. Their daughter, who will be starting kindergarten soon, sat next to us and decided to draw portraits of us during Sacrament Meeting. See below:

My husband is on the left and I am on the right. Those proportions seem pretty accurate.

Now for the next portrait:

You must look closely at this one. My husband is on the left again and I am on the right. His niece was quite observant, really. He was a bit scruffy that day (hence the green dots on his face), and the shirt he was wearing was blue. I am not exactly sure what kind of creature I look like, but notice that there is a baby on my lap. When I asked D's niece about the picture, she said "that's Uncle D, you, and the baby."

I was speechless. She did not know that I had taken a pregnancy test that very morning and the results were positive! Out of the mouths of babes....

Even though we found out on Christmas Day that we were going to have a baby, we kept our news quiet until the first trimester was over. Now we're excited to share it with others, and we look forward to welcoming baby into our family this fall.

When I was pregnant with Ike there was a family reunion, and Eric and I were walking back from the pool with my nephew who was like 4 at the time. He told us something like, "You are just aunt and uncles right now. You have to have kids so you can be a mom and dad." At that point it wasn't a secret that I was pregnant - I was like 20-some weeks along. It was amusing though to explain that we were going to be parents very soon, and we could still be aunts and uncles too!
