I'm a Professional Your Great Aunt Maude

I'm a professional genealogist. I don't blog about it much, but that's what I do for a living, and I like my job. Professional genealogists have certain stigmas attached to them. (Hmmm, I wonder what they could possibly be? Hee hee.) Hence the conversation I had with my friend, Sherry, at work today. It went something like this:

Me: Which sounds better, Professional Genealogist, or Professional Family Historian?
Sherry: Professional Your Great Aunt Maude.

She's right, neither one sounds terribly thrilling...no offense to anyone's great-aunt Maude. :)

p.s I choose professional family historian because when I hear Genealogist I always think they said gynecologist. just me maybe.

Cher, all I have to say is bahahaha! Gynecologist! Ooops, wrong field of study!

Lori, maybe I WILL change it on my resume. It might make me stand out to future employers. :)

Jillian, I am glad to help you with your completeness!

(First of all, we need to catch up soon)
I am working at a school now and every once and a while it comes up that I used to be a professional genealogist (I choose that because it is more common outside of the Mormon culture.) It really impresses the old female teachers that are now Great Aunt Maudes themselves. It makes me feel really cool.
Also I had a funny run in with the other Mrs. Maxfield at my school. When I met her I suggested that we should try to figure out how we were related (friendly small talk.) She smugly stated that she knew we weren't because I was probably a Vermont Maxfield and she is a Massachusetts one. I explained that actually my husband was from Washington State and that we should look into it. And she was still insisted that she knew we weren't related. I had to hold back the fact that I used to do genealogy for a living! She was definitely one of those weird old teachers.
