Oh the stories I COULD tell.....

One day I might write a book. It might be called something like The Dating Memoirs of the self-proclaimed Queen of Awkwardness. (I am, of course, the Queen of Awkwardness. It's written on the white board at work, so it must be true.) This volume might include stories with plots that could be similar to these:

1. Girl goes on "friend" date with guy who likes girl's best friend (girl's best friend is currently dating guy's roommate, but guy hasn't noticed it yet...silly guy). In middle of said date, guy tells girl he likes her best friend.

2. First date after girl returns home from mission, girl is set up on blind date. Nice, clean-cut RM. Half-way through date, as girl and guy walk up to the door of a friend's house where they are going to play games, guy asks if girl wants to pretend like they're doing a missionary-style door approach. No thanks, but girl is excited to play Phase 10 once they get inside!

3. Girl registers for dating site. One week, girl gets plethora of matches, many more than usual. Girl already knows one match. Girl quickly closes said match to avoid further awkwardness, but gets a good chuckle out of it at the same time.

4. TBA

I freely admit that the top two scenarios make the guys seem like the awkward parties, but I also freely admit that I create my fair share of awkwardness. I think that, subconsciously, I must feed on it. The awkwardness does make for some great stories, though. :) Once I've stopped cringing, I can't help but laugh at the stories, and at myself!

Have you any awkward dating snippets that you'd like to share? I'd love to hear!

My first date in college was with a musician. I was skipping class (truly, it wasn't worth it either) and we were heading to the Sheraton downtown SL for a Jazz concert. The music was nice, but the guy kept inching his way towards me, putting his arm around me, etc. I hardly even knew him and didn't like him THAT much. I kept inching away from him throughout the night. I was sitting by his friends, who I later had an institute class with. We laughed over him "making moves" all night long. I was so uncomfortable, I could hardly enjoy the musical experience.

Then, once the concert was over, it only got worse. He wanted to go out to eat! It was very late and I was really tired. I pleaded with him to take me home, but he said, "no. I'm hungry. I want to eat first." I literally sat there watching him eat a huge meal, while I had a small Sunday. It was such a miserable date.

I had a very interesting blind date once. I had to write it out so I didn't miss anything. http://chas.willowrise.com/?s=blind+date

I never asked the girl out again.

Actually, I love the fact that I had a LOT of awkward and stupid dating experiences, because they make great stories later!

BTW, Martha, I love the part of your story about sitting and watching him eat! LOL!!!!

My blind date on a massive group date got car sick while we were driving across town. I think we had to pull over and switch drivers. Awkward!
On another date, we had to walk to get ice cream cuz he didn't have a car. On the way there he started picking up litter. I mean, it's great to care about the planet, but seriously!
And then on the last date I ever went on before I dated my husband, the guy actually asked me if I wanted to cuddle during the movie and I said no and so we sat on different couches. I've always thought you shouldn't ask, just do, but I'm glad I was given the chance so I could say no instead of trying to scoot away from him thru 2 hours of Jumanji!

I had a guy once ask me on a date to a play. He didn't mention the fact that he was IN the play. So... I sat in the audience with the other couple watching my date perform. Then we went to the cast party. strange strange date.

i love your stories alli.

I submitted this one to a "bad date" blog a friend's sister was doing:

Sad thing is... it wasn't event the worst one! It is pretty funny though after the fact. Enjoy!

These are all great stories! Thank you for sharing them with me. The older I get, the more great dating stories I store up. It feels great to be able to pull out the memories once in a while and have a really good laugh. One day, when I get married, I will be even more grateful for them. :)
